Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 lb ground turkey (93% lean)
  • 4 hamburger buns
  • 15 oz canned tomato sauce
  • 3 tbsp ketchup
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp yellow mustard
  • 1 yellow onions
  • 1 green bell pepper
  • 1 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 1/2 tsp kosher salt

Method

  1. Cook the finely diced onion and bell pepper in the olive oil over medium-high for 5 minutes.

  2. Add the ground turkey and brown it, breaking it up, about 7 minutes.

  3. Stir in the tomato sauce, ketchup, brown sugar, Worcestershire, mustard, and salt.

  4. Simmer 8 to 10 minutes until thick enough to hold on a spoon.

  5. Toast the buns cut side down in a dry pan.

  6. Spoon the filling onto the buns and serve right away.
